THINGS TO DO IN BIR BILLING

1.PARAGLIDING:-

Bir Billing is most famous for Hawaiian sports. The climate is best suited for paragliding during the months of March to May and October to November. You can also enroll yourself in training programs to learn the sport better. In the month of October, Bir hosts the Pre-World Cup Paragliding. This place is a major attraction for adventure enthusiasts. The glide begins at Billing (2400 m) and ends at the western edge of the Tibetan colony (14 km south).Solo paragliding is available for the experienced. Whereas a novice can paraglide with a trained instructor in a two seater glider. One can get spectacular views of Bir Billing from paragliding. Here you can also experience hand gliding.

2.TREKKING:-

Bir is the starting point for various treks and hikes routes.The climb from Bir to Billing offers beautiful views of deodar forests, mountain peaks and the Dhauladhar range.

FEW OF THE HIKING ROUTES ARE:-

Billing-Rajgundha-Barot:This is an easy trek. One can camp overnight at Rajgundha or go further till Barot.

Chhota Bengal and Bada Bengal:This is a moderate,adventurous trek

Parashar Lake: This is a mysterious lake in the middle of the Himalayas,located to the east of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.An island floats within it and the trek offers amazing views of the Dhauladhar Range.

3.CAMPING:-

The camping experience in Bir is amazing.One can gaze up and absorb the fresh air.Tents also help in promoting eco-tourism.Camps often organize bonfires with music sessions.There are campsites in Bir,but one can book packages that include camping and paragliding.

4.TRAVEL BY TOY TRAIN:-

One can also avail the toy train from Bir to cover the nearby tourist places.Pathankot’s toy train is the most popular.The trip comes with spectacular views of the hills and the valley below.There is also a Heritage Toy train that starts from Joginder Nagar and ends at Pathankot.

5.MOUNTAIN BIKING:-

Bir Billing’s winding roads and highways are well maintained.One can also try mountain biking around the villages and reach the paraglider’s landing point.The hill station near Palampur can also be reached by bike.Deol Ka Rasta offers wonderful views of the fields and villages. 

6.HIKE FROM BANGORU WATERFALL:-

There are several waterfalls nearby which can be reached by a short walk or walking tour from Bir. Bangoru Falls is at a distance of 4.5 km from the Tibetan Colony.The route is an easy climb. The waterfall is directly from Gunehar village.One can turn on the GPS or ask the local people for directions.This place is less known to tourists and is ideal for picnics.Milky white water flows from the rocks and adds to the beauty of the waterfall.

7.VISIT THE DEER PARK INSTITUTE:-

One of the most famous institutes for the study of Indian classical knowledge is the Deer Park Institute. This educational center has a pagoda style structure and reflects Tibetan culture.Various paintings and carvings related to Buddhism cover the walls. A visit to Bir is incomplete without covering this place.Tourists enjoy the retreat as it is a relaxation activity.

8.EXPLORE THE CAFE:-

The cafes here serve authentic local cuisine.But what stands out is the Garden Cafe.As the name suggests,this garden cafe offers spectacular views and has an amazing menu.It also has accommodation facilities.Be sure to try their freshly brewed coffee,pizza and sandwiches.There are other cafes like Friends Cafe,99 Not Out and Himalayan Cafe which are worth visiting. These cafes and restaurants also serve a variety of cuisines such as Chinese,Continental,Indian, Italian and Mexican.

9.WORSHIP IN CHOKLING MONASTERY:-

The most famous Tibetan monastery in Bir is the Chokling Monastery.It is in the middle of the Tibetan colony and has a white color.Other vibrant colors add richness to the monastery. It also houses an idol of Padmasambhava and a stupa.The monastery is 1 km away from the Bir landing site and offers clear views of the mountains.Paragliders can be seen flying nearby.It is a memorable place to visit with colorful flags,lush green lawns and serene atmosphere.

10. VISIT THE CHOWGAN TEA GARDEN:-

To the south of Lower Bir, tea plantations abound. Different types of tea are grown here. The climate of Bir contributes to the richness of the wealth of the region. One can take a stroll through the tea gardens and enjoy the pristine views of the surroundings. The fresh air will instantly cheer you up. It is a delightful sight to see the women laborers plucking fresh tea leaves from these gardens with baskets and children on their back. His flamboyant action is no less than an art. Some of these workers are also very tourist friendly.
