What is Roulette?
Roulette is a casino game where the aim is to correctly predict the outcome. Each game consists of a handful of components:
- A Roulette wheel
- A Roulette table
- A small white ball, also known as a pill
- A dealer/croupier
- Betting chips
The iconic wheel is comprised of 37 compartments, 38 if you’re playing American Roulette. Each pocketed compartment contains a number from 0 – 36, and alternates from red to black except the zero pocket, which is green.
As mentioned before, the aim of Roulette is to correctly predict where the ball will land within the wheel, after being spun.
The table layout represents each wheel pocket, as well as other bet types you can place, including that of pocket colour and number category.
Normally, the table is green. However, in some online Roulette games, you may be offered the opportunity to change the colour of the table to red or blue.
How to play
At the start of each game, the croupier will announce the betting window for the game, open. It’s during this time all players wishing to take part in this particular game will be able to place a wager on the table, of what they predict the outcome of the game to be.
After some time, the dealer will close this betting window. No further bets will be accepted or allowed to be placed on the table. The croupier will start by spinning the wheel. Next, they’ll drop the pill into the wheel, which will start to bounce around before finally landing into a random pocketed compartment of the wheel.
It’s only when the wheel comes to a complete stop, that the dealer will announce the winning pocket number and colour. If any players correctly predicted the outcome, they’ll receive their winnings. After this, all chips remaining on the table will be swept away in preparation for the next game to begin.
Now you’ve had a little refresh of the casino classic, will you be spinning the wheel on your next trip to the virtual casino?
