If you’re young and just starting to learn how to use social media, a Snapchat account can be an excellent way for you to get started! However, it’s not always easy to find your way around the app. To help out newbies, we’ve put together a guide on how to make a public profile on Snapchat so you don’t have to worry about all of the confusing parts of this popular app. First, you’re going to need to download the Snapchat app. You can find it on iTunes or Android or simply search for it on Google. You’ll also need to create an account after the app is installed. If you already have a Snapchat account, you can skip this step and go right ahead with creating your new profile.
Your profile is very important because it’s what potential friends will see before they decide whether or not they want to follow you. Since your profile is public by default, it can be easy to go too far with what you share. We recommend that you only use the app for personal conversations or snaps. You can also keep your private snaps locked so they stay private from anyone who doesn’t have a Snapcode associated with their Snapchat account. Since this is a public account, you can set or remove a username and a display name. The username will appear before the username in texts sent by other users. The display name will appear before your username and after your username in texts sent by other users.
If you don’t have a display name, Snapchat allows you to create a default name. The default name can be used as a first name if you’re not sure what to use for your display name. The snapcode will show up on the screen to let the other person know that they’ve been sent a message from you. You can also allow others to view your location by using geotagging rather than choosing to receive only from your close friends. But remember, this will increase the amount of information about yourself that Snapchat gives away.
Eligibility Criteria for a Snapchat ‘Public Profile’
Eligibility for a public Snapchat profile is very restricted. In order to qualify, you must have a minimum of ten contacts and be aged 18 or above. You can’t have any past violations of the app’s terms and conditions. Lastly, your account must also use a legitimate photo ID for verification purposes to prove that you’re who you say you are.
Using the Snapchat app requires an account known as a “public profile” which you can share with others. This new-age social media site recently announced new changes to their terms of service on May 19, 2017, concerning public profiles. These changes will take place sometime between now and mid-June. As an extension of these Terms of Service changes, there are very strict eligibility criteria that Snapchat public profiles must meet. If the account is not fulfilling the set standards, then it will be removed and an email notification will be sent to the account holder.
Before applying to be verified for Snapchat, you must first create a “public profile.” A public profile requires you to have at least ten contacts and be 18 years of age or older. If you do not qualify for a “public profile,” then you can still use the service for a personal account. The new eligibility requirements will change some aspects of the service, including how users can customize their settings, but they will not necessarily lead to an increase in the number of people who use the application. Although only 10 percent of Snapchat users are over the age of 35, that still amounts to roughly 8.4 million people. However, with these new Terms of Service changes, there are now more reasons for people to continue using the app. Public profiles allow users to share their Snaps with anyone they’d like on a more permanent basis. Those who have had trouble keeping up with their contacts on the old Snapchat will appreciate being able to quickly filter through them with this new feature.
How to create a Public Profile?
It’s been more than a week since Snapchat rolled out basic Public profiles to everyone. However, this update is being released in batches across different regions and might take a few days to show up in your app depending on your region. Either way, you will have to first go public with your current profile to create a tier 1 Public Profile for your account subsequently. Let’s take a look at how you can create a ‘Public Profile’ once this feature is available to you.
The Snapchat update is pretty straightforward and all you have to do is navigate to the main screen of your Snapchat app. You can go from the Stories page by swiping left a couple of times. Look for a ‘Settings’ option in the bottom left corner and tap on it. From there, choose the option that says ‘Create a Public Profile’. It will prompt you to accept an additional login screen that will allow you to authenticate your story submissions from another device in case it’s ever stolen or lost. After accepting this screen, you will have to fill out the relevant information for creating a Public Profile. Keep in mind that your Story will still be visible to all your friends on Secret and Confidants, but the option to create a Public Profile will be available only once you take everything else private. Since this is being rolled out in batch along with other features, you might have to wait a few days to see it show up on your app. You can always check out the Snapchat app to see if there is an update in progress in your region.
Difference between ‘Going Public’ and a ‘Public Profile’
Going Public implies changing the privacy of your current profile in Snapchat. This has been a feature for a while and going public allows your connections and groups to view your stories and snaps publically. This also allows users that are not a part of your contact list to view your latest stories and snaps as long as they have your username. Publishing your account on the app means that anyone who has your username can view all of your snaps and stories.
On the other hand, a ‘public profile’ is a way to let everyone know who you are and what you have to offer by updating your profile with a bio, interests, and pictures. But if you choose to go public with a public profile, no one can see it until you post something on it. To make your own public profile, first, you need to go on the app and press on your profile picture. A new window will open with the settings. Scroll down until you see the option ‘Update Your Profile.’ Tap on that and it will take you to a page where you can change your name, username, bio, interests, and photos. The first words that appear on a person’s profile or bio are what he or she will be able to see on the app. People who have account access can also go to their settings and scroll down to their profile, photos, and username so they can see those as well. This is done by simply accessing someone’s page, clicking on ‘edit,’ and tapping on their username or avatar to view those details.
